Good bright light.
4I was looking for a powerful, do it all light that gave a reasonable spread but still focused enough to light up the road/trail ahead, with a lens that would work just as well when used upside down when hung from a go pro mount. After hours of reading reviews and comparisons I decided to go with the cateye volt 1700. It covers all the bases I need. Usually the low steady setting is enough to light up dimly lit areas, but a simple double tap bring in the full beam which should be more than enough to light up dark paths and trails. I like the way the battery is replaceable, I've the same light on both bikes, if I'm going away I can take the battery off the other bike with me so there's no need to worry about battery life, though I've never had to swap batteries yet. Only downside is the cost, there's lights on amazon that give just as good an output and battery life though maybe not as water resistant, but only 1/6th of the price.

Perfect
51700 is my upgrade from 1300 that I used regularly (daily in winter) for over two years with no issues. The 1300 still works fine - max output lasts now for approx 1h 45min. 1700 looks and feels exactly the same as 1300 but it is considerably brighter. The bracket is easy to use and it can be moved to different bike very quickly without any tools.

5Haven't used as i planned (night riding in the forest, but lighting is awesome in poorly light areas.

5Amazing amount of useful light for road riding as well as off-road use. The instructions state Not for road use. Has a dip facility and useful modes. Highest setting isn't needed even on unlight roads, though off-road is ideal. This light at the PROBIKE price offer unrivalled bang for your buck.

Great Product
5Just taken delivery of the Cateye 1700 and first impressions are well founded. This lamp us very well made, solid and VERY bright. I use this on wooded unlit paths and can see well ahead. Keeping an eye on the track and wild animals is easy. Even on Medium setting the light level is still impressive. Be carfull not to blind people coming in the opposite direction though, as it can be a bit over kill. The mount is good but be carfull not to "over tighten" the locking wheel, just turn enough so the lamp is tight and no more. Charge times are long but I charge over night so it's then ready for the next evenings ride. To sum up.. very well made, very good metal lamp section and brilliant lighting. Thanks Probike for the great value and delivery.

5The word, Maximum dose not quite define. It's more like. Please use with caution. Don't go around blinding padestians. Use correctly. With utter common sense.
