2017 shamal mille

5

i posted an early review regarding these wheels but after about a thousand miles am now adding a few comments.. have been on unpaved roads and (soaking) wet roads. superb breaking, no flats inflated to about 90 psi. incredibly smooth ride. not too stiff but a good solid feel. very comfortable on long rides, 3 or 4 hours. on the downhills the ceramic bearings allow them to roll super-fast with no effort. climbs and descends great. i do not race but ride over 5k miles a year and expect to be very satisfied with these wheels for years to come.

shamal millet c17

I have shamal ultra c17 ,zonda c17 and shamal millet. Millet is heavier than shamal opposite to catarog data. But millet is cool and best choice for me. I can get best performance.

Superb so far

5

Wheels arrived ahead of schedule in perfect condition. Only have a few hundred miles on them so far but very satisfied with the performance. Campy smooth, solid and comfortable ride. Braking is extremely good with the included PEO brake pads. Had been riding Neutron ultras and the Shamals do seem a bit more firm. will update this review after some more miles.

Fast, stable, great braking

These wheels replace a set of Mavic Ksyrium SLR wheels whose Exalith braking surface has worn through. The Milles weigh 1449g on my digital scales, the Mavics 1402g. The Milles are noticeably stiffer than the Mavics with much less brake rub when climbing out of the saddle. The ride is firmer but this is somewhat offset by the lower tyre pressures made possible by the wider rims. I've settled on 88psi front and rear compared with 96psi on the Mavics, both running Conti GP4000S 25mm tyres. The Milles handle noticeably better than the Mavics, offering much more confidence in fast corners and they're almost silent with silent braking (with the supplied blue pads toed-in just like with the Exalith rims on the Mavics) and a silent free hub. The most obvious difference though is the bearings which are significantly faster and smoother than those in the Mavics, so much so that when coming off the power on entry to a corner the bike often feels like it's speeding up! Braking is at least as good as with the Mavics, which means it's about as good as it gets with rim brakes. The Exalith coatings on the Mavics lasted 4000 miles having endured winter grit and long descents in horrible, wet conditions in the Alps, Tenerife and Dolomites. Grit is the enemy of these braking surfaces and Campagnolo recommends filing the pads to remove grit. I'm not sure how often I'll do this but I'll try to keep the pads as clean as possible to extend the life of the plasma braking surface. All-in-all, if you ride in the mountains in often difficult conditions, as I do, then alloy rims still make much more sense than Carbon and these are the best alloy wheels I've ridden.

Terrific Wheels

5

As a lifetime cyclist and competitor I've had the opportunity to race and ride on many, many sets of wheels. I've always been a fan of Campagnolo Wheels and have owned or ridden most models they make. Like a lot of people I've raced on some other brands of carbon wheels, but I missed the qualities I like in an aluminum wheel, ease of use, durability, and braking. For this year I looked at everything out there and decided on the Shamal Mille C17. Glad I did. From the first ride on they are impressive. While not quite as light as some carbons or as aero I haven't noticed that performance has suffered. They climb extremely well, no lost power. They spin up nicely but when the roads turn down they are fantastic. The braking is unparelled. The feel at the lever is sure and quiet. Braking power exceeds any carbon or aluminum wheel I've ridden. With Campagnolo quality I expect these wheels to last as long as I want to ride them. 5 stars.
