Outstanding tire

Veloflex produces exceptional tubulars. The Criterium - and black sidewall cousin, Carbon - line hits a sweet spot with me. Compliant ride, grippy cornering, good puncture resistance, and decent longevity for such a lightweight tubular. My typical mileage gets me near their rated 3,000km for the rear, while a front seems to far surpass the rated 5,000, barring a terrible slice. These tires are not immune to puncture - and not prone, either. Mine usually involve something that will affect any brand: you know, the usual nail, staple, wire, thorn. Unless you hit something radical, however, the air will not evacuate in a hurry. The pinpoint construction and latex tubes probably have something to do with this. Veloflex does not make a cheap tire, nor do they use butyl tubes. In my opinion, the Criterium outperforms the Conti Competition in all regards. Get the Conti Sprinter to save a few bucks or if performance is not important to you. My preference, though, is to get the best tire out there.

Top Race Tyre

For racing I have used many different brands and models of tubular tyres over the years and the Veloflex Criterium is one of the very best I have used and will continue to use. Grip in wet or dry conditions is outstanding, low rolling resistance, outright speed and handling is superb! This is a race specific TUBULAR tyre perfect for Criteriums, Kermese and road racing events. The tyre is hand made using natural rubber and a latex tube so, it will lose some pressure overnight, this is normal, however get the tyre pressure correct for the conditions and it exudes confidence. I always pre-stretch a tubular tyre on a rim well before final mounting so; I never have a problem, but these would be one of the simplest and easiest to fit. The tyre is somewhat delicate with rather thin side walls making it very supple, perhaps adding to the comfort factor and grip. I am not married to Veloflex and I do use other brands (mainly for training), however IMHO Veloflex is the GOLD standard for road race tyres. There may be better tyres on the market in one respect or another; however this one has the right balance. I hardly ever puncture even when training and most often never take a spare tube and never take a spare anything when racing so; it may not come as a surprise when I say I have never punctured a Criterium tyre and I’m on my second set (four tyres) in three years.

Criterium Veloflex

Have had a couple of races on these tyres and they are very fast which validates the reason why so many pros ride em and the crr data is pretty good. Only new so cannot comment on wear, but expect wear to be good as with other veloflex tyres I have had.
