Great retro/vintage look

After fixing up a 1982 Peugeot PH10 I needed to replace the almost 30 year old San Marco saddle that was ripped. After trying numerous saddles that didn't fit the look I picked this one and it looks perfect! Compared to a Brooks saddle it isn't as wide but it does provide more cushion. The break in period is also much less!

For Brooks Haters

Everybody is different, and if like me you find Brooks saddles uncomfortable and inconvenient to care for, preferring instead the instant comfort and convenience of padded leather-covered plastic saddles, this saddle might be for you. Its big advantage for me is its lack of embroidery and its comfort over long distances. I rode Paris-Brest-Paris on this saddle, on a fixed gear, so it is every bit as good as a Brooks. And in the rain, it's much, much better; no sagging or having to treat the leather!
The only downside, & the reason I don't give it 5 stars, is that the Ti rails will break (mine broke after 11,000 km). Consider going with the steel rails despite the extra weight.

Classic saddle, but firm

I got this saddle to replace my Selle Italia Turbomatic. I figured this was the saddle for larger riders. At the time I bought it I was 5'11" and about 175 lbs.

I like the classic look of the saddle; I will admit that the classic look and rivets played a role in choosing this saddle. I also like the fact that it is a wider saddle, which have become more difficult to find.

I found this saddle to be too firm for my taste. The padding is not very thick and the shell didn't seem to break in for me. I also think the saddle needed something to help dampen any road vibrations, but perhaps I was spoiled with the elastometer in my old Turbomatic. After most rides over an hour in length I found that my family jewels were hurting from the lack of shock absorption. I also felt that the centre of the saddle was a bit too domed for my taste. I would have liked a more flat seating area. I ended up taking it off my road bike and putting it on my track bike where at least the surface is generally smooth and you're not on the saddle for extended periods of time.

Caveat: Saddles are extremely personal and what works or fails for one will not work/fail for others.

It's not light, but it is a classic and a comfortable, well priced one at that.

It appears that you need to share a few hundred miles with the Regal before you feel at home on it. It remains firm, but acceptably forgiving for long rides.
The saddle's overall profile is a fairly flat one, with a slight rise at the tail; this is enough to push against, and combined with the firm shell it provides an efficient feeling base when putting the power down.
This is a true classic, and if you can accept the weight penalty of this saddle, you get a very supportive base with good comfort levels - once you have broken each other in – for a very reasonable price.
